“Bar Code Identification of SDI Bars”

The Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) plant in Columbia City, Ind., USA, installed an InfoSight multistrand bar code tagging machine in mid-2010. This equipment applies bar code identification onto hot blooms and beam blanks. Four strands are served by the equipment, with a fifth strand planned in the future. The core technologies to laser-print and weld-apply bar code tags are discussed. The 2-D bar code on the tag can be automatically scanned for tracking and data collection purposes. Automatic bar identification benefits are discussed. This technology facilitates automatic marking and identification of hot steel bars in the new SDI mill.

]]> May 21, 2008 : INFOSIGHT GOES INTO SPACE http://www.infosight.com PermaLabel® went into space headed for attachment to the International Space Station for a year long exposure test. The shuttle Endeavor launched on March 11th with the MISSE 6A and 6B. The experiment was fitted to the space station with a space walk on March 17, 2008. The experiment will test the contents to UV/Space exposure for one year and then retrieved and brought back for evaluation here on earth at the space labs.
