Q: Why is only one nozzle of my two nozzle head pulsing?
A: The nozzle might not be firing for the following reasons.   First, the nozzle might simply be plugged in which case a thorough cleaning should correct the problem.   Second, the nozzle might not be adjusted properly.   Finally, the fuse on the high voltage driver card may be open and needs to be replaced.

Q: What is the difference between the green and red lights on the head driver card?
A: The green lights (LED) are an indication of continuity of the circuit between the head driver card and the coil.   When a complete circuit exists and power is supplied to the head, the green LED for that coil is on.   The red LED indicators show when a particular coil is being turned on.   When the head is printing or pulsing, you will see the red LED for the coils pulse rapidly.

Q: Why is one of the green lights on the head driver card not turned on?
A: Since the green light is an indication of a complete circuit, if one or more is not turned on then a break in the circuit exists between the head and the driver card.   This may be due to one or more of the following.   The power may be turned off.   The head cable may be disconnected or have a broken wire.   One or more fuses on the head driver card may also be open.  You can check the fuses with an ohm meter and replace them as needed.

Q: What is the maximum number of characters I can print?
A: The standard software for the I-Dent printer allows the operator to enter up to 158 characters in any one line.   Because of the formatting feature and automatic generation of certain fields (time, date, serial number, etc.) the system will actually print messages up to 200 characters in length.

Q: Why are the characters leaning to one side?
A: The I-Dent spray marker forms characters using an inclined linear head.   To make characters of any given height, the head must be inclined at the proper angle and the pixel count and encoder divider parameters must be correct.   Check to be sure that these parameters are correctly set in the Marker Setup screen and that the head is mounted correctly.   Also, make sure that you are using the proper encoder, and that the encoder coupling is not slipping.

Q: Can the I-Dent print the new style API logo character?
A: Yes.   Versions of the standard I-Dent software beginning with V2.0 incorporate the new style API logo.

Q: How do I get the print to start closer to the end of the pipe?
A: Where the print starts relative to the end of the pipe is usually dependant on several things.  The print is usually started based on some signal from a downstream sensor that detects the end of the pipe.  Locating this sensor closer to the head may move the print closer to the end of the pipe.  If a jib must lower the head onto the pipe based on a sensor, the speed that the head is lowered and the speed of the moving pipe will determine where the print starts.  In this case, you may have to increase the head lower speed.  In some very old I-Dent® printers, the software may take longer to “compile” the print image which may influence the amount of time needed to begin printing.  Little can be done to improve the compile speed without an electronics/software upgrade.
