Q: What is causing my tags to be printed too light?
A: This can be caused by several things.   The most likely cause is that the laser's lenses have become dirty and must be cleaned.   It can also happen if the lenses are not properly focusing the laser beam on the tag, which requires an adjustment to the lenses.   An unlikely cause would be a malfunction of the laser, or the laser has degraded over time.   A laser problem would require service by a qualified factory technician.

Q: How do I clean the lens?
A: Use a clean, lint-free cloth and distilled white vinegar.   Flush the lens and galvo mirror with the vinegar and dry with the lint-free cloth.   Do not use alcohol of any kind, pressurized air or freon, and do not rub the mirror with the cloth as these things can force dirt to jam into the mirror or lens surface coating.

Q: How do I clean inside the printer?
A: Clean all of the filter elements on the muffin fans and use compressed air to blow out any dust in the unit.   Do not use compressed air to blow out the mirror or lenses.

Q: How do I change the location of text fields on my tag?
A: You can change the location of a text field (or logo or barcode field) using the operator terminal.   First select the Tag menu, Edit menu item.   Select the text field to be changed and press enter twice.   Once the Text Field editor screen appears, tab to the X and Y location fields and enter the new location coordinates.   Select OK to save your changes.
If you are using the KE28xx Tag Layout Utility, you can change the field location by dragging the field to the desired place.

Q: How do I add a logo to my tag layout?
A: You can add a logo to your layout using the operator terminal.   First select the Tag menu, Edit menu item.   Select the Logo button at the bottom of the screen which will activate the Logo Editor.   You must then select the desired logo type, location, height, width and rotation angle.   Press OK to save your changes.   If you selected one of the two user logo types, you must also download the logo bitmap images to the printer.   We recommend that you use the Tag Layout Utility to download logo images to the printer.
If you are using the Tag Layout Utility, you can add a logo by first selecting the Logo Tool and then clicking the location on the tag where you want the logo to appear.

Q: I am currently using 3 inch wide tag material.   Can I use 4 inch material in my printer too?

Q: Can I use longer (or shorter) tag material if it is the same width that I currently use?
A: You may run tag material of various lengths up to 20 inches as long as the width of the tags is compatible with your printer.   To change tag stock length, you must first set the Tag Length parameter in the Marker Setup screen.

Q: Why is the printer feeding one or more blank tags between each tag it prints?
A: This is usually caused by one of two things.   First, you may be using tag stock material that is not the same size as specified in the Tag Length parameter of the Marker Setup screen.   Second, the Stepper Resolution parameter of the Marker Advanced Setup screen may not be set properly.   To calibrate the stepper resolution, first select the Monitor menu, Calibrate menu item.   From the Calibration screen, select Motor and follow the directions shown.

Q: Can the tag layout be performed via the operator terminal?
A: Yes, the operator terminal provides a tag layout function which allows you to configure the location, size, orientation, etc. of the text, barcode and logo fields of your tag.   The operator terminal cannot be used to add a custom logo or other bitmap image as this requires a PC to download the image to the printer.

Q: Is a Windows graphical program available to layout the tag?
A: Yes, InfoSight offers a custom designed Windows 9x utility program called the KE28xx Tag Layout Utility which provides a graphical WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface for designing your tag layout.  This utility allows you to add text, barcode and logo fields to your tag in an easy to use way.   This utility is available free of charge for download from this site.

Q: When I download a second User Logo bitmap, why does it replace my first bitmap?
A: The tag printer differentiates the first and second user logo bitmaps based on the name of the file you send.   The second filename must contain the number two somewhere in the first seven characters (e.g.  FILE2.BMP) so that the printer knows it is the second logo.   If the filename contains no number it assumes that the image is for the first logo and overwrites any image that may already be saved.   Placing a one in the name of the first logo file is optional but recommended for clarity.

Q: Why did one or more characters of my text field disappear when I moved it using the Tag Layout Utility?
A: If any part of a character falls outside the left edge or the bottom edge of the tag, then that character will not be rendered and it will seem to disappear.   If a field is moved off the bottom edge, the entire field will disappear.   If a field that has been rotated 90 degrees is moved close to the left tag edge, sometimes a single character will disappear because some characters a just a bit taller than others and they cross the boundary first.   If you can't see the field to select it, use the Setup/Tag Layout window to move it back into range.
