Extended Protocol Simulator Software

To aid in the setup and debugging of the InfoSight Extended Protocol communications link, we have created two simulator programs for Microsoft Windows 9x/2000. The first simulator program, called ExProSim, acts as the communications link master and will allow you to enter messages and send them to our marking systems. The second simulator, called SlaveSim (Version), acts like our marking system and will accept messages from your host computer.

These programs are provided as a ZIP file which must be unzipped before use. If you do not have an unzip utility, visit PKWare or WinZip to obtain a copy.

Once you have downloaded the file, create a directory on your hard drive called C:\HOSTSIM and place the zipped file in that directory. Unzip the file into the same directory. It is important that the HOSTSIM directory exist on your C hard drive because the simulator utilities will place parameter files there.

When you start either simulator, make sure you set the communications parameters (baud rate, parity, etc.) using the Setup/Communications menu.

ExProSim - Master Simulator

The ExProSim program provides four sets of messages which can be entered. For each, enter the desired message type as required by the marking system and any associated Send Text. Press the Send button for that message and view the results in the Status field at the bottom of the screen. If the marker returns data as part of the message, it will appear in the Received Text field under the data you sent.

SlaveSim - Slave Simulator

The SlaveSim program will display all messages received from your host computer along with any errors it may have encountered. Up to three response fields can be set up to allow the simulator to return data in response to specific message type commands from the host. You can also cause the simulator to NAK a given message type by entering an exclamation point in the data text field.
